Inclusive Excellence in the School of Public Affairs

At ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½â€™s School of Public Affairs (SPA), we are committed to advancing inclusive excellence—an ongoing, active process that ensures access, belonging, and thriving for all members of our community. We believe that engaging the broad range of experiences, identities, and perspectives found across our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners enhances our collective mission and strengthens our contributions to public service and scholarship.

Inclusive excellence is not a standalone initiative—it is integral to how we teach, learn, work, and lead. We foster an environment where every individual can fully participate in the life of the university and feel a strong sense of community. Through shared connections, we build a stronger and more equitable institution that prepares future leaders to serve with integrity and purpose.

SPA’s efforts reflect AU’s university-wide commitment to inclusive excellence and align with the broader values of justice, academic excellence, and community engagement.

Our Approach

  • Supporting faculty and staff in fostering inclusive and effective teaching, mentoring, and workplace practices.

  • Creating programming and experiences that reflect a range of thought and experience across our campus and beyond.

  • Encouraging ongoing dialogue and collaboration on issues related to access, opportunity, and thriving communities.

  • Partnering with students, alumni, and colleagues to identify strategies that promote a just and inclusive academic environment.

Participation Welcome

SPA’s inclusive excellence programming and opportunities are open to all members of the AU community who wish to engage in service of our shared mission. We welcome and encourage participation from students, faculty, staff, and affiliates across schools, backgrounds, and experiences.
